Because Sometimes More is More
DISCLAIMER: I am NOT saying that circumcision is worse or equal to FGM. I’m pointing out why I think it’s wrong, and why it’s odd that so few people are against THAT, while so many are against FGM.
And I’m just gonna say this. I used to be all for circumcision of male babies. Until, of course, I actually thought about it.
I really just don’t like the idea of it. You’re cutting off a body part of your child, obviously without their consent, for reasons that are really not legitimate reasons at all. It’s actually not all that difficult to keep penises with foreskin clean (which is one big argument for circumcision) and it really just boils down to parents being lazy or freaked out about having to teach their sons how to clean inside it.
Not to mention you’re depriving your son of all the nerve endings IN the skin of the penis that is being removed. I don’t know if people understand this, but you’re depriving your child of the maximum sexual satisfaction they can have. And I know that’s not the first thing on the mind of a parent with a male newborn, but apparently those nerve endings make some awesome sensations, and if I was a guy, I’d hate to think that I could be experiencing MORE sexual gratification if only I had some damn foreskin.
And then there’s people who talk about “well, it looks weird!” Well, that might be the case for you, but penises with foreskin can be and are attractive. And, you know, where do people get off making beauty decisions for their INFANTS when it comes to their genitalia? You’re not going to perform labiaplasty on an infant female because you don’t think her genitals conform to what a “beautiful” labia looks like, so why would you chose for your son how his dick is supposed to look?
And, just to clarify again, FGM and circumcision are NOT 100% the same or comparable. This is NOT what I’m trying to get across. But, I really don’t understand how people can be against cutting off young girls’ clitorises while also being totally cool with chopping off infant boys’ foreskin.
